Starlink

Starlink uses a constellation of low-orbiting satellites to deliver broadband internet service to nearly anywhere in the world. Its advanced satellite and hardware technology offers higher speed and lower latency, allowing users to enjoy quality streaming, gaming, video calls, and more. Plummer’s Contracting is the only certified Starlink installer in Kentucky, and we can help you get online in no time.

How Does Starlink Work?

Other satellite internet providers use single geostationary satellites that orbit Earth more than 22,000 miles above its surface. This distance means significantly higher latency time than Starlink, as the data must make a much longer trip between the satellite and your device on Earth. Starlink has a series of satellites in orbit approximately 341 miles above Earth, delivering much higher data speeds than other satellite-based providers.

How Much is Starlink?

We mount Starlink hardware to your home's roof, making it far more complex than plugging in a router. The upfront cost for hardware is $599 for standard home service, with installation costing between $250 and $500. The monthly fee for home service is $120. Future service calls for Starlink range between $50 and $150. We accept cash, checks, wire transfers, Venmo, Cash App, and credit and debit cards.

What Starlink Internet Plans Are Available?

Most homeowners choose the standard service plan due to its reliable, high-speed service and reasonable cost. Businesses and other high-demand situations that require internet service may prefer a priority plan, which ranges between $140 and $500 per month, depending on the amount of priority data needed. Mobile and priority mobile plans are available and are best for RVs and boats.

Is Starlink Available in My Area?

Starlink's popularity is due to its extended availability. The service is available throughout most of the United States, including all of Kentucky and Ohio. This means you can enjoy high-speed internet service anywhere, including while traveling with a mobile plan.

Comparing Starlink to Other Satellite Internet Providers

Satellite internet is the most practical option for people living in rural areas that DSL, fiber, or cable internet providers do not service. Starlink outperforms other leading satellite internet services, such as Hughesnet® and Viasat. Download, upload, and latency times are vital in determining the quality of internet services.

Where Should You Place the Starlink Router?

The Starlink dish will work best when mounted on your roof, but the router's placement inside your home is equally important. Use these tips to select the best spot for your router:

Place your router near the area of your home where you most often use devices like laptops, tablets, and cell phones. You will get the best connection when the router is at most 1-2 rooms away. If you have an older home with dense plaster walls, put the router near the room door, as wood is less dense.

The Starlink router performs best when upright on a hard, flat surface like a desk or tabletop. However, place your router halfway up the room because the signal emits on the same plane as physical placement.

Electronic devices like cordless phones and baby monitors can cause interference. Switch these devices to a different frequency.

Getting the Most Out of Your Starlink Service

  1. Ensure stable service with an uninterrupted power supply (UPS): Starlink satellites can bring the power of the internet anywhere, but the hardware required to use it must have an electrical power supply.
  2. Set a Custom DNS (Domain Name System): Switching your DNS from the default can provide faster internet speed and stop malicious websites and software from accessing your network.
  3. Utilize Starlink’s malware and content filter: If you don’t want to choose a custom DNS, you can turn the malware and content filtering option on in the Starlink app settings.
